birch shrinkpot

birch shrinkpot

To make this piece, I hollowed a birch log, leaving a long tube.  Then a groove is cut near the bottom and a dry piece of oak squeezed in.  As the fresh birch dries, it shrinks around the oak, locking it in place.

Use to disply dried flowers or as a utlensil crock.

Finsihed in a food-safe, plant-based oil.

Approximate dimensions; 5.5" across, 7" high
