intermediate - intro to spoon carving
In this class we will cover an introduction to spoon carving. We'll briefly talk about tools, sourcing materials, axe work, and design. Then we'll dive in and carve a cooking spoon from a prepared blank, learning safe, effective knife grips for both straight and hook knives. We'll wrap up with a discussion on finishing touches, decoration possibilities, and how to continue in the craft.
Class consists of two sessions no more than a week apart, lasting 2 hours each. We will schedule them at a mutually agreeable time and they take place at my shop in Newton.
Some prior carving, woodworking, or hand craft experience will make this more enjoyable. Conside my beginning class carving a cheese knfe if you're just beginning.
All materials and use of loaner tools included; however, having your own knives will help you continue in the craft. I can make recommendations on what and where to buy; the total cost is currently around $50.
