maple black hole

While hollowing this bowl, I unearthed an unexpected large knot, but the grain and splating were just too beautiful to give up on the piece.  I carved out the unstable wood of the knot and filled it with black resin.  The grain swirls around this "black hole" and the spalting pattern is celestial.  In total, it's a beautiful example of what wood can be.
